"Addiction and Criminal and Behavior"
Description: During the past decade, the most significant advances in treating individuals with criminal involvement and addiction issues as separate populations have been in the field of cognitive behavioral psychology. This workshop will address the art of cognitive-behavioral treatment for clients who are dually affected with criminal conduct and substance abuse.
Course Objectives:
Upon completing this workshop participants will successfully be able to:
1) Identify the parallels between addiction and criminal behavior.
2) Recognize pathological behaviors of clients that may sabotage restoration to physical, psychological, social and spiritual health
3) Acquire skills to redirect unproductive client defense mechanisms into an accurate understanding that can lead to healthy resolution of problems.
4) Identify barriers to successful reintegration into society, and appropriate countermeasures to resolve them.
5) Learn the basic qualities inherent to healthy sobriety

Substance abuse and chemical dependency professionals, social workers, mental health practitioners, professional counselors, probation and parole officers, court referral officers, drug court professionals, nurses, community corrections professionals, juvenile justice professionals, psychologists, human service professionals.

“Understanding Addiction and Recovery Through A Child's Eyes:
Description: Kids have a unique perspective in viewing the world. While its long been held that alcoholism and other drug addiction are a family disease, there are few opportunities for young children to be an integral part of the treatment and recovery process. Come learn about how children see addiction in their families. More importantly, witness how they embrace the healing process. There is much hope when we treat the whole family.
Course Objectives:
Upon completing this workshop participants will successfully be able to:
1) Describe the core characteristics of resilience; 2) List the six rules of effectiveness in facilitating groups for children from addicted families;
3) Demonstrate two activities to assist children from addicted
families in the healing process; and share two important messages to guide and support youth from addicted families
Target Audience
Substance abuse and chemical dependency professionals, social workers, mental health practitioners, professional counselors, teachers, school counselors and nurses, community corrections professionals, juvenile justice professionals, nurses, psychologists, Christian counselors, faith community, human service & other health care providers, and other adults who work with youth, including prevention professionals.
